The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 26th that it had booked the primary and subcontractor managers on the 25th for violating the Industrial Safety and Health Act in connection with the worker fatality accident that occurred at POSCO Pohang Steelworks.
The Pohang branch of the Ministry of Employment is reportedly conducting a focused investigation into the circumstances that allowed workers to enter despite the risk of workers coming into contact with cargo handling machinery vehicles during operations.
At around 9:40 a.m. on the 20th, A (39), a contractor employee who was monitoring safety for steam pipe insulation workers at the 3 Coke Plant in Hwaseong Department of Pohang Steelworks, was struck by a charging vehicle and transported to the hospital but died.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Employment formed a dedicated investigation team led by the head of the Pohang branch to investigate the details of the accident.
Kwon Oh-hyung, head of the Pohang branch of the Ministry of Employment, said, "We will thoroughly investigate violations of safety measures related to this accident and hold those responsible strictly accountable," adding, "We will do our best to prevent recurrence of similar accidents by focusing on accident prevention."
