[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The number of new COVID-19 cases in the Daejeon area reached 370 in a single day, marking the highest daily count.
According to Daejeon City on the 26th, 370 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the region the previous day. This is an increase of 144 cases compared to the previous highest record of 226 on the 24th. Considering the cumulative number of confirmed cases over the past week is 1,240, the region has seen an average of 177.1 new cases per day.
The sharp rise in confirmed cases in the area is also analyzed to be related to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant. The city explained that 85 new Omicron variant infections were added the previous day, bringing the total cumulative number of Omicron variant infections to 666.
As COVID-19 cases surge, the city’s quarantine measures are likely to be enhanced. The city announced quarantine measures tailored to a situation where daily confirmed cases increase by 400.
However, with the number of confirmed cases nearly reaching 400 the previous day, adjustments are expected to be inevitable.
Earlier, the city announced quarantine measures that included increasing dedicated personnel at public health centers from 46 to 100 and organizing dedicated staff to ensure treatment tools and medicines can be delivered within 24 hours.
The quarantine measures also include expanding the number of medical institutions managing confirmed cases from 10 to 12, increasing designated pharmacies from 15 to 17, and adding Yuseong-gu as a telemedicine institution for home treatment patients.
Additionally, the city plans to increase the number of dedicated infectious disease beds to 544 by the end of this month (currently 351), while securing 555 additional beds in living treatment centers, enabling more than 1,000 people to receive isolation treatment.
Meanwhile, as of the 26th, the cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the Daejeon area stands at 14,619. Among them, 263 cases are reported to be infections from overseas arrivals.
