SK C&C Wins CDP Carbon Management Award in Global Environmental Information Project

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] SK Inc. C&C announced on the 26th that it received the 'Carbon Management Sector Honors' award in the industrial materials category at the '2021 CDP Climate Change Response Excellence Awards' hosted by the CDP Korea Committee, held at the Shilla Hotel Yeongbingwan in Jung-gu, Seoul.

CDP is a global environmental information project (covering climate change, water, forests, etc.) involving over 13,000 major listed companies from 91 countries worldwide. Every year, companies disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, risks and opportunities related to climate change, and carbon management strategies through CDP.

CDP conducts evaluations related to global environmental issues such as climate change and water resource management, and assigns a total of eight grades based on the results, including Leadership A, Leadership A-, Management B, and Management B-.

SK C&C was recognized for its various eco-friendly improvement activities to address climate change issues and received the Leadership A- grade for the first time this year. In this year's evaluation, 21 companies including SK Hynix, Shinhan Financial Group, and Hyundai Construction were included in the climate change response leadership list.

SK C&C has been carrying out carbon emission reduction activities by establishing an environmental management system and utilizing digital technology capabilities to achieve the 'Green ICT 2040' vision, which aims to become a leading eco-friendly company by 2040.

These activities include declaring 'Net Zero' by 2040, which is 10 years ahead of the global carbon neutrality target year of 2050, securing solar power self-generation facilities and purchasing green premiums, implementing eco-friendly data centers, disclosing reports based on the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations, obtaining global environmental management system (ISO14001) certification, and reducing carbon emissions in daily life through the social value practice mobile app 'Haenggarae'.

Going forward, SK C&C plans to promote greenhouse gas emission reductions by discovering industry-specific eco-friendly business models based on digital platforms utilizing artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud technologies, as well as expanding renewable energy production facilities, establishing integrated energy management systems, and introducing high-efficiency new technologies and equipment.

Kim Seonghan, SV Officer at SK C&C, said, "This evaluation recognizes the efforts and achievements made by exploring and responding to climate change in various ways." He added, "We will continue to create various programs to enable not only SK C&C but also our partners to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to accelerating net zero."
