[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Five individuals, including public officials, were caught for allowing waste vehicles to pass the weighing scale normally while deceiving the load weight by holding a weighing card attached to a selfie stick, and collecting fees.
Although the front and rear wheels of the truck had left the weighing scale that measures the weight of the cargo truck, they manipulated the weight by extending the weighing card to the sensor.
On the 26th, the Busan Southern Police Station announced that they arrested five people, including district office officials, who manipulated the weight to show less loaded waste weight when passing the weighing scale at the entrance of the waste landfill site, collecting 95 million won in waste import fees.
According to the police, A (male, in his 50s), a public official at a district office in Busan, conspired with waste disposal company officials and drivers to participate in the weight manipulation crime.
From March to July last year, they manipulated the weight to show less loaded waste weight when passing the weighing scale at the entrance of Saenggok Business Office waste landfill site in Saenggok-dong, Gangseo-gu, collecting 95.7 million won in waste import fees for about 1,600 tons of waste over approximately 600 times.
After receiving a complaint from Saenggok Business Office, the police began an investigation, analyzing CCTV and examining waste import records, and arrested A and three companies, a total of five people, sending them to prosecution without detention on charges of fraud (Criminal Act Article 347).
The police confirmed the problem that waste vehicles pass the weighing scale normally even if the actual load is measured smaller at Saenggok Business Office, and recommended installing artificial intelligence sensors to prevent fraudulent weighing.
