Lotte Department Store analyzed sales of holiday gift sets over the past five years (2017?2021) and found that about 20% of total holiday gift set sales occurred during the last four days before the holiday. Since online courier delivery orders close 5 to 6 days before the holiday, this reflects the demand from customers who miss the online purchase window or prefer to buy gifts directly close to the holiday. Reflecting this trend, Lotte Department Store operates the 'Same-Day Delivery' service that delivers gift sets on the day of purchase until just before the holiday break.
'Same-Day Delivery' is a holiday-exclusive delivery service by Lotte Department Store that delivers gift sets purchased for 70,000 KRW or more within a 5 km radius from the purchase store to the customer's address within 3 hours. It was first introduced at the main store during Chuseok 2020 and expanded to all metropolitan area stores starting last Lunar New Year. This year, amid ongoing courier strikes raising customer concerns ahead of the Lunar New Year, Lotte Department Store explained that it secures professional delivery personnel and provides stable delivery services under quarantine management.
The most popular gift sets for the 'Same-Day Delivery' service are 'meat' and 'fresh fruit' sets. Due to their large size and weight, customers prefer delivery over carrying them directly after purchase. Unlike general processed products, these items require temperature control and shape preservation, leading customers to trust the department store's professional delivery service rather than mass courier delivery. Representative popular products include the Hoengseong Hanwoo Premium Set (2kg), Full Blood Wagyu Premium Set (2kg), Food Avenue Apple and Pear Mixed Set, Ulleung Kichso Premium Set (4.2kg), Jeju Black Hanwoo Premium Set (3.6kg), Premium Shine 4-Item Mixed Set, and Apple Mango and Golden Apple Mixed Set.
Light gifts such as 'Hangwa' (traditional Korean sweets) and 'Jeonbyeong' (Korean pancakes), which can be enjoyed immediately with family, are also sold frequently just before the holiday break.
