[Asia Economy Reporters Kim Hyemin and Lee Hyunju] The redevelopment plan for Jamsil Jugong Complex 5 in Songpa-gu, Seoul was submitted to the Seoul City Urban Planning Committee but was ultimately deferred.

According to the redevelopment industry and Seoul City on the 25th, the city held a delegated subcommittee meeting of the Urban Planning Committee to review the redevelopment plan for Jamsil Jugong Complex 5, but the plan was deferred. The delegated subcommittee is an organization authorized by the Seoul Urban Planning Committee to review and decide on redevelopment plans. The city had previously requested the agenda to be submitted to the delegated subcommittee.

Because of this, the industry had placed emphasis on passing the delegated subcommittee, but it was unsuccessful. Jeong Bokmun, the head of the Jamsil Jugong Complex 5 association, said, "We were asked to consider replacing the cultural facilities inside the park near Hangang Bridge with housing or other facilities," adding, "It is considered a minor issue, and after revisions, we will proceed with the process again."

The redevelopment plan, which was revised at last year's general meeting of Jamsil Jugong Complex 5, includes changing the neighborhood park to a cultural park and expanding the total floor area of cultural facilities within the park from 2,000㎡ to 10,000㎡, equivalent to the Seoul Library's floor area.

Meanwhile, Jamsil Jugong Complex 5, which is celebrating its 45th year this year, passed Seoul City's review in 2017 to upgrade the land use of the general residential area within the complex to a semi-residential area, allowing reconstruction up to 50 floors. However, the redevelopment plan has been delayed for several years as it has not passed the delegated subcommittee, delaying the project's progress.
