[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A scene was captured where U.S. President Joe Biden uttered a curse word in response to a question from a reporter of the conservative broadcaster 'Fox News' during a press conference.
On the 24th (local time), President Biden held a press conference in the East Room of the White House to explain the U.S. response regarding the possibility of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. However, when reporters asked questions about domestic issues, the White House said, "We will not take questions unrelated to the topic today," and asked the reporters to leave.
At that moment, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked, "Could U.S. inflation be a burden on the midterm elections?" President Biden muttered in a low voice, "No. More inflation. Stupid son of a b****." This remark was broadcast live worldwide through the live feed.
According to the British daily The Guardian, the White House recently stated that "inflation is a temporary issue," but voices of concern have emerged even within the Democratic Party that this issue could become a long-term political burden.
At the time, President Biden made the curse believing the microphone was off right after the press conference ended.
Reporter Doocy later appeared on Fox News and said, "President Biden called me within an hour and said, 'There were no personal feelings involved.'" He added, "I said I would continue to ask questions that other reporters do not, and President Biden replied, 'Go ahead and do that.'"
Regarding this, a Fox News anchor commented, "It doesn't seem like the president apologized."
Last year, President Biden also apologized after harshly criticizing a CNN reporter's question. Additionally, when he was Vice President, he stirred controversy by adding an 'F' word while saying "We did a very big thing" when former President Barack Obama signed the healthcare bill.
Meanwhile, in December last year, the U.S. consumer price index rose 7% compared to the same month the previous year, marking the highest in 40 years. Coupled with security threats such as the deployment issue related to the Ukraine crisis, President Biden's approval rating is declining.
