[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 25th that he would "actively consider improving the profit distribution method of the Sports Promotion Lottery (Sports Toto) to secure stable funding for sports."
On the same day, Lee posted on social media (SNS) a message titled "Listening to the Voices of Sportspeople on the Ground" in celebration of the '2022 Korea Sportspeople's Convention,' presenting this sports policy pledge. Regarding Sports Toto, Lee explained, "We will establish legal and institutional measures to ensure that the profits are evenly used for expanding and improving the treatment of community sports instructors, expanding school sports teams, and supporting the operation of sports organizations and local sports councils." The intention is to improve the profit distribution method to enhance the treatment of sportspeople.
He stated, "To expand the funding of the National Sports Promotion Fund and member organizations, more categories such as e-sports will be incorporated into the Sports Promotion Lottery." Lee also pledged to "innovate the government's sports administration organization to advance the national sports administration functions and promote convergence and fusion across fields," including the establishment of a National Sports Committee.
Lee said, "We will expand school physical education classes, revive school sports teams, which are the roots of sports, and guarantee student athletes' rights to study and exercise," adding, "We will actively implement the recommendations of the Sports Innovation Committee, but policies with significant gaps from the field will be reconsidered to prepare reasonable alternatives."
