[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] Ro&Company (CEO Kim Bon-hwan), the operator of the leading online legal platform ‘Lotoc,’ is launching a legal information search service based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

On the 25th, Ro&Company announced that it is launching ‘BigCase,’ a legal information search service with the largest number of precedents in Korea, and will provide the service for free.

BigCase offers approximately 530,000 precedent data, including 420,000 lower court precedents. Ro&Company stated that this is the largest volume of precedents held by any legal information search service released domestically. It allows searches not only by court level precedents but also decisions from the Constitutional Court.

Additionally, including about 2.6 million preview precedents where only parts of the precedents are disclosed, BigCase enables searches of approximately 3.13 million precedents.

BigCase is free for anyone who registers as a member. Some precedents are also available for search without membership registration to allow users to experience the service. Currently, BigCase has been released in a PC version first, with plans to launch a mobile version in the future.

To commemorate the launch of BigCase, Ro&Company is conducting a user review event. All lawyers who register for BigCase and participate in a simple survey after using the service will receive a beverage gifticon. The participation period is from today until the 28th of next month, and the event may end early if the prizes run out.

BigCase incorporates the latest AI technologies to optimize searches, including ▲‘Search by Document’ and ▲‘AI Key Point View.’

‘Search by Document’ is an advanced search service that elevates the traditional short keyword-based search method by allowing users to input a long document directly into the search bar in a single step, enabling simultaneous exploration of cited precedents, fact-related precedents, and statutes.

‘AI Key Point View,’ which applies an extraction summary AI model that automatically selects important content from precedents, is a service that instantly finds and displays key sentences within precedents containing vast amounts of information.

Moreover, BigCase reduces the time needed to review precedents by displaying key information about judgments through keywords and icons. Color-coded icons allow users to immediately distinguish whether a precedent has been overruled or if it is a decision by the full bench.

Legal AI Research Director Ahn Ki-soon, who oversaw the development of BigCase, said, “We put great effort into enhancing the search by applying new AI technologies to provide an experience differentiated from existing search services,” adding, “We plan to continuously introduce features unique to BigCase, such as automatically grouping precedent search results by issue in the near future.”

Kim Bon-hwan, CEO of Ro&Company, stated, “BigCase was launched to improve lawyers’ work efficiency through advanced precedent search and to enhance accessibility to vast precedent data,” and added, “Based on Series C investment, we will strengthen our development capabilities and elevate the level of the domestic legal tech industry through innovative services.”
