[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok will visit China for a 3-night, 4-day trip starting next month on the 3rd. Speaker Park will attend the Beijing Winter Olympics opening ceremony and a luncheon hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to the National Assembly, Speaker Park will visit Beijing, China, for talks with Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), among other engagements.

Chairman Li officially invited Speaker Park during a video conference between the two countries' parliamentary speakers in December 2020. Subsequent related discussions have been ongoing.

Speaker Park plans to hold a Korea-China parliamentary speakers' meeting with Chairman Li and discuss ways to expand exchanges between the two countries' legislatures, marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The National Assembly explained, "Speaker Park is the highest-level foreign guest welcomed by the Chinese NPC in Beijing since the COVID-19 pandemic."

Additionally, Speaker Park will attend the Beijing Winter Olympics opening ceremony and a luncheon hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping. During his visit, he will encourage the Korean athletes participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics and hold a meeting with compatriots.
