[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 25th, Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced plans to reduce the proportion of fossil fuels to one-third and to scrap the nuclear phase-out policy in order to cut fine dust emissions.

On the same day, Yoon held a press conference at the People Power Party headquarters and announced plans to drastically reduce the share of coal and other fossil fuel power generation from the 60% range to the 40% range during his term, while expanding renewable energy and nuclear power.

Although the public and private sectors have voluntarily set and implemented greenhouse gas reduction plans through voluntary agreements (VA), these will now become mandatory. Additionally, air purifiers installed in elementary, middle, and high schools will be replaced with purifiers capable of removing fine dust and viruses. Furthermore, the indoor air fine dust standard for multi-use facilities such as underground stations and shopping centers will be strengthened from 50㎍/㎥ or less to 40㎍/㎥ or less. The high-concentration fine dust warning will also be changed from 12 hours in advance to 2 days in advance.

As part of the 'circular economy' policy, Yoon proposed installing grinders in new buildings. This will allow food waste to be discharged directly into the sewage system. He also stated that the waste disposal method, currently centered on landfill and incineration, will be shifted toward pyrolysis.
