[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Mercedes-Benz Korea has declared that it will officially open the era of electric vehicles starting this year.

Mercedes-Benz Korea held an online press conference on the 25th under the theme "Power the Future."

At the conference, Mercedes-Benz Korea announced plans to launch various electrified models within the year, including the business electric sedan "The New EQE," the family electric SUV "The New EQB," and the high-performance version of The New EQS, "The New Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+."

The New EQE is the second model developed based on Mercedes-Benz’s dedicated electric vehicle modular architecture, following The New EQS. It offers a spacious interior larger than the E-Class, powerful driving performance with a maximum output of 215 kW and maximum torque of 530 Nm, and a maximum driving range of up to 660 km under European standards on a full charge.

The New EQB is the second compact SUV model introduced by Mercedes-EQ following The New EQA. It features a spacious interior that can be expanded to a 7-seater by adding an optional third row of seats, and delivers strong driving performance both on and off-road.

The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is the first pure electric vehicle model introduced by the Mercedes-AMG brand. It delivers powerful performance with a maximum output of 484 kW and maximum torque of 950 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

In addition, the facelifted model of the luxury 4-door coupe CLS, "The New CLS," the 6th generation fully redesigned model "The New C-Class," and the 4-door sports car "The New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe" will also be launched within the year.

Mercedes-Benz Korea also unveiled the "Concept Mercedes-Maybach EQS," the brand’s first pure electric vehicle under the Mercedes-Maybach brand, for the first time in Korea. Maybach represents the highest-end models within the Mercedes-Benz brand.

Achieved No.1 in Domestic Imported Car Sales for Six Consecutive Years Since 2016

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz Korea explained that it sold 76,152 vehicles domestically last year, marking the number one position in imported car sales in Korea for six consecutive years since 2016. This year, the company emphasized plans to activate online sales to enable convenient purchase of various products and services.

Furthermore, it plans to focus its capabilities on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management to become a more responsible corporate citizen.

Mercedes-Benz Korea stated that this year it will place greater focus on ESG by recognizing the risks of climate change and the importance of carbon neutrality, while engaging in sustainable activities through everyday actions such as plogging and forest creation.

Thomas Klein, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Korea, said, “Over the past year, we have accelerated transformation and continued domestic investment activities to provide customers with the best products and better services. This year, we will achieve strategic growth momentum centered on competitive models and customer services, and continue activities for coexistence with Korean society with a sense of responsibility as a corporate citizen.”
