Effect of Viagra Quadruples When Paired with Lime Juice 'Soars'

Two servings of lime juice... The first case showing lime's effectiveness in treating erectile dysfunction

[Asia Economy Senior Reporter Jinsoo Lee] A study has found that when men take the erectile dysfunction medication Viagra along with citrus fruit lime juice, its effectiveness increases fourfold.

According to the online edition of the scientific journal Journal of Food Biochemistry on the 16th (local time), the effects appear within minutes when Viagra and lime juice are taken together.

A joint research team from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in Nigeria and Elizade University in Ilaramokin claimed in their paper that lime juice raises nitric oxide levels in the body, improving blood flow.

Ayokunle Ademosun, a lecturer in the Biochemistry Department at FUTA who led the study, described it as "the first case showing that lime is effective in treating erectile dysfunction."

The researchers conducted experiments on male rats with erectile dysfunction. The results showed that rats given lime juice began mating within 15 seconds, whereas other rats took more than 60 seconds.

Moreover, the males given lime juice were so vigorous that they mated twice with multiple females. Blood tests revealed that their blood nitric oxide levels had increased by 70%.

Dr. Michael Wiley, a British scientist who participated in the development of Viagra in the 1990s, told the daily The Sun, "According to the study results, you should drink the equivalent of two servings of lime juice before taking Viagra."
