[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] The Changwon City Council in Gyeongnam announced the launch of the Changwon Special City Council on the 24th, starting with the council flag raising ceremony and the unveiling of a symbolic monument.

The council flag raising ceremony held that day was organized to commemorate the first year of independence of personnel authority in local councils, to elevate the status of the council, and to reaffirm the determination of all council members to prioritize public stability in 2022 and become a council that works together with citizens.

Following this, Chairman Lee Chi-woo and the chairmanship moved to the connecting bridge between City Hall and the council to conduct the unveiling ceremony of the symbolic monument commemorating the launch of the Special City Council together with Mayor Heo Seong-moo.

The symbolic monument unveiled that day was installed to record the historic moment of local autonomy marked by the launch of the Special City Council. It includes the slogan of creating a new future for Changwon Special City together with citizens, photos of council members by region, representative tourist attractions of Changwon, and the council building.

Chairman Lee said, “There are many pressing tasks such as securing additional special rights and promptly transferring maritime port authority,” adding, “As we enter the first year of a true era of autonomous decentralization, we will communicate together with a renewed spirit and become a Special City Council that empowers the lives of citizens.”
