'Nomination Rumors for Audit Committee' Lee Nam-gu, 청 Secretary, Returns to Board of Audit and Inspection

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Lee Nam-gu, former Secretary for Public Service Discipline at the Blue House, who has been rumored to be appointed as an Audit Commissioner, is returning to the Board of Audit and Inspection less than a day after his successor was appointed.

On the 24th, the Board of Audit and Inspection announced in a personnel report for senior audit officials that Lee was appointed as the 2nd Deputy Secretary-General effective the 25th. Lee, a former head of the Public Service Inspection Headquarters at the Board of Audit and Inspection, was selected in March 2020 as the successor to former Secretary Choi Kang-wook.

Kim Myung-woon, the current 2nd Deputy Secretary-General, was appointed as the 1st Deputy Secretary-General; Jeong Sang-woo, Director of the Audit Education Institute, was appointed as the head of the Public Service Inspection Headquarters; and Lee Jun-jae, Director of the Industrial Finance Audit Bureau, was appointed as the Director of the Audit Education Institute.

This personnel change was made less than a day after President Moon Jae-in appointed Lee Byung-gun, Senior Administrative Officer of the Public Service Discipline Secretary’s Office, as Lee Nam-gu’s successor earlier that morning.

Previously, in October last year, Seo Il-jun, a member of the People Power Party, caused controversy by revealing an internal whistleblower report ahead of the confirmation hearing for Choi Jae-hae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, stating that "after Chairman Choi’s inauguration, Blue House secretaries would be appointed to specific positions and then sent as successors to the Audit Commissioners."
