Suncheon-si, Nationwide First to Support Biodegradable Mulching Film

Support for Eco-Friendly Mulching Film to Reduce Field Labor and Minimize Rural Pollution

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that it will support naturally decomposable mulching film to minimize environmental pollution caused by labor shortages due to rural aging and waste vinyl generation.

The city secured 300 million KRW of municipal funds and will support biodegradable mulching agricultural materials (film, paper) at a rate of 1 roll (500m) per 10a, up to a maximum of 1ha, for the first time nationwide.

The support targets horticultural and field crop farmers, excluding paddy fields, orchards, and ornamental tree cultivation lands. Only biodegradable environmental label certified products will be supported for organic certified farms, while other certified products can be supported for pesticide-free certified and general farms.

Interested farmers can apply at the local eup/myeon/dong administrative welfare center by the 15th of next month.

A representative from the Eco-friendly Agriculture Division stated, “We will strive to support eco-friendly agricultural materials necessary for labor reduction and environmental conservation in the future.”
