[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for Jeong Mo, an associate of Metropolitan Chairman Kim Young-hong, who is considered to be behind the 'Lime scandal.'
The Financial Investigation Division 2 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Rak-hyun) filed an arrest warrant request for Jeong on the 24th on charges including operating a gambling space and violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act.
Jeong is accused of operating a remote gambling site in the Philippines and earning profits amounting to 70 billion won. He is also suspected of providing overseas escape funds by distributing profits to Chairman Kim, the actual owner of the casino.
Jeong was arrested locally in the Philippines on the 8th of this month and was repatriated to Korea on the 22nd. The schedule for the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) has not yet been announced.
Metropolitan, a real estate development company, received an investment of 300 billion won from Lime, but Chairman Kim is reported to have embezzled a significant portion. Former Star Mobility Chairman Kim Bong-hyun also claimed that Chairman Kim and others were the 'masterminds' behind the Lime scandal.
