[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The Houthi rebels in Yemen have reportedly resumed missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after a week. The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that it intercepted two ballistic missiles launched toward the capital, Abu Dhabi.
According to foreign media including the Associated Press (AP) on the 24th (local time), the UAE Ministry of Defense stated that it intercepted two ballistic missiles fired by the Yemeni Houthi rebels toward the capital, Abu Dhabi. UAE state-run WAM news agency reported that missile debris fell in Abu Dhabi but no damage occurred. Detailed information such as the type of missiles fired by the Houthi rebels and the weapons used by the UAE for defense has not been disclosed.
This is interpreted as a resumption of offensive operations just a week after the Houthi rebels launched ballistic missiles at Abu Dhabi International Airport and oil facilities on the 17th. At that time, the UAE reportedly succeeded in intercepting one ballistic missile using the U.S. THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) system.
Saudi Arabia, which is allied with the UAE and participating in the Yemen conflict, also reportedly intercepted a ballistic missile attack by the Houthis on the 23rd, reducing damage, according to Saudi state media. However, missile debris fell in southern Saudi Arabia, injuring two people and causing some facility damage, the report added.
