[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The ruling and opposition parties have agreed on the schedule for the extraordinary session of the National Assembly to review the supplementary budget. They decided to review the budget from the 3rd to the 8th of next month, while the date for the plenary session to finalize the budget will be discussed later.
On the 24th, Han Byung-do, the senior deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party, and Chu Kyung-ho, the senior deputy floor leader of the People Power Party, met at the National Assembly and agreed on the schedule for the extraordinary session.
The ruling and opposition parties agreed to convene the extraordinary session on the 27th to begin reviewing the supplementary budget. The policy speech on the supplementary budget will be held immediately after the opening ceremony of the plenary session convened for the extraordinary session that afternoon. The review of the supplementary budget by standing committees will take place between the 3rd and 8th of next month. The Special Committee on Budget and Accounts will hold its review starting on the 7th of next month.
The date for convening the plenary session to finalize the budget is currently undecided. The senior deputy floor leaders of both parties agreed to meet on the 8th to discuss the plenary session schedule and related matters.
Deputy Floor Leader Chu said, "We only discussed the supplementary budget," adding, "We did not discuss specific details of bills or the budget."
When asked by reporters whether the agreement on the legislative schedule for the budget was conditional on the approval of the supplementary budget, Deputy Floor Leader Han said, "We hope it will be processed by the 14th," but added, "We will continue related discussions later." Deputy Floor Leader Chu explained, "Since the budget has arrived at the National Assembly, we need to carefully review it and negotiate with the government on the originally requested matters. Therefore, depending on the progress, we will decide how to proceed with the final approval, and this is linked to those considerations."
