Namwon-si to Distribute 'Basic Public Interest Direct Payment' Before Seollal Holiday

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk Province announced on the 24th that it will pay 5 billion KRW in city-funded direct payments under the 2022 'Basic Public Interest Direct Payment System' before the Lunar New Year holiday.

The payment targets are 11,021 farmers who have their residence in Namwon City and cultivate farmland both inside and outside Namwon City.

The standard payment area ranges from 0.1 to 6.0 hectares, and the payment will be made by applying 420,430 KRW per hectare to the 11,892 hectares of farmland eligible for the basic public interest direct payment last year.

The city stated that the city-funded direct payments contribute to enhancing the public functions of agriculture and rural areas such as environmental conservation, rural maintenance, and food safety through agricultural activities, as well as stabilizing the income of farmers.

Additionally, the city plans to actively implement related policies to stabilize farmers' management and improve their quality of life.

Previously, in early December last year, the city paid 25.4 billion KRW in national government-funded basic public interest direct payments to 11,397 households and 12,579 hectares, and in mid-December, it completed payment of 1.13 billion KRW in provincial government-funded direct payments to 9,180 households and 8,768 hectares.

This year, the city plans to complete administrative procedures such as final confirmation of eligible households and farmland and account verification at the eup, myeon, and dong levels before making the city-funded direct payments.

A city official said, "We will promptly pay the city-funded direct payments before the Lunar New Year holiday, which requires significant funds, to help alleviate the difficulties in rural areas caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and autumn rice pests and diseases. We will do our best to manage until the city-funded direct payments are completed."
