Decision to Introduce Data-Driven Specification Management and Improve Livestock Facilities and Odor Issues
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongbuk Province will invest a total budget of 101.5 billion KRW in 69 projects this year to foster the local livestock industry.
In response to environmental changes such as carbon neutrality, the province plans to implement competitive and sustainable eco-friendly smart livestock farming and promote the transition to eco-friendly energy in livestock farming as well as the establishment of infrastructure.
Support will continue for ongoing livestock improvement and livestock facility upgrades, and productivity of Hanwoo farms will be enhanced by expanding genome analysis and embryo transplantation. Proactive supply and demand measures to stabilize Hanwoo prices will also be pursued by inducing the culling of low-performance cattle.
Data-based optimal feed management and the expansion of automated livestock barns will be promoted. In line with the government's Green New Deal and carbon neutrality policies, focused investments will be made to diversify manure treatment methods such as customized livestock odor improvement, low-methane feed development, and livestock manure energy conversion.
Gyeongbuk Province will support 31.2 billion KRW for livestock facility modernization projects and 11.5 billion KRW for ICT convergence expansion projects in the livestock sector to improve livestock facilities and expand the foundation for future-oriented livestock farming.
To stabilize livestock improvement and breeding infrastructure, 2.8 billion KRW will be allocated for Hanwoo improvement, 1.8 billion KRW for renewal of poor-quality sows, 12.2 billion KRW for distribution of excellent equipment and prevention of heatwave damage, 5 billion KRW for livestock disaster insurance, and 7.5 billion KRW for school milk supply and dairy equipment to stabilize dairy farmers' management.
To build a feed self-sufficiency base by expanding forage production and utilization and reduce production costs, 9.3 billion KRW will be invested in silage production, seed purchase, quality control, and machinery for forage production, and 2.6 billion KRW for silage production, seed purchase, and compost for specialized complex formation.
To create a clean livestock environment and sustainable livestock farming through proper livestock manure treatment, 26.9 billion KRW will be supported for eight items including livestock manure compost and liquid fertilizer spreading costs, livestock odor improvement, odor measurement ICT machinery, and eco-friendly odor reducers.
For the development of the horse industry and revitalization of Cheongdo bullfighting, 800 million KRW will be invested in the creation of a horse industry special zone, 3.7 billion KRW for student horseback riding experiences, 300 million KRW for the establishment and operation of a youth riding team, and 3 billion KRW for the operation of the bullfighting stadium.
New projects such as support for fattening low-performance non-pregnant cows, pig shipment sorting machines, dead livestock disposal equipment, and demonstration projects for converting livestock manure into solid fuel energy will also be promoted.
Lee Jeonga, Director of Livestock Policy Division, said, “Livestock farming is an important industry for the national economy, but conflicts with local residents and society are intensifying due to odor and environmental pollution,” adding, “We will introduce ESG management that coexists and develops together into livestock farming to establish a livestock industry foundation in cooperation with the residents.”
