[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The close-knit group of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate known as the ‘7-in Club,’ declared on the 24th that “even if Lee is elected, we will not take appointed positions.”
On the morning of the same day, lawmakers Jeong Seong-ho, Kim Young-jin, Kim Byung-wook, Lim Jong-sung, Moon Jin-seok, and Kim Nam-guk held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, “We must never return just because we contributed to the previous government or become a force in state affairs without verification of our abilities simply because we contributed to the presidential election victory.”
They said, “Starting with us, who are classified as Lee Jae-myung’s closest aides and called the so-called 7-in Club, we will relinquish vested interests. We believe that no citizen wants to see the candidate surrounded by so-called close aides running the government exclusively for themselves.”
They continued, “We will prepare to appoint talents widely beyond factions and values and to be reborn as a completely new ruling force. Everyone, including the lawmakers, must work together so that our party can regain the value of fairness and shed the stigma of double standards.”
After the press conference, Lawmaker Jeong told reporters about the background of this declaration, “Regardless of party, we are showing an image of not being able to focus on the presidential election ahead of the March 9 by-elections. With the awareness that appointments based on existing camps, regions, and interests with elected candidates should not happen, we decided to announce that the closest 7-in Club would first abandon all vested interests.”
Regarding prior consultation with the candidate, he said, “None at all. I have never told the candidate.”
