'Siheung Branch Transfer Station' Enhances Convenience and Safety Opens on the 25th

'Siheung Branch Transfer Station' Enhances Convenience and Safety Opens on the 25th

The Metropolitan Transport Commission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 24th that the 'Siheung Depot Metropolitan Bus Transfer Station,' the first result of the metropolitan bus transfer facility improvement project in the Seoul metropolitan area, will open on the 25th.

The pilot project to improve metropolitan bus turnaround and transfer facilities has been underway since 2020 to ensure public safety and stable operation of metropolitan buses. The Siheung Depot Metropolitan Bus Transfer Station, opening this time, is the first project to be completed in the Seoul metropolitan area.

This transfer station connects six routes including Gangnam, Sadang, and KTX Gwangmyeong Station, serving about 500 passengers daily, but the facilities have become outdated and lack pedestrian space, raising safety concerns.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport demolished the existing transfer station and newly installed a smart transfer station equipped with facilities such as a bus information system (BIS) and heating and cooling systems.

The transfer station, which was mixed with a highway rest area, was structurally separated, and safety for users was secured through improvements such as access road maintenance and elevator installation.

With this completion, the metropolitan bus turnaround and transfer facility improvement project has finished two projects in total, including Osong Station at the end of last year. This year, 10 more locations and 5 additional locations next year are planned to be completed.

Baek Seung-geun, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Commission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The metropolitan bus transfer facility pilot project is a new metropolitan transportation cooperation project jointly promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and local governments, and will serve as a good model for improving traffic safety and convenience."
