[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The People Power Party's election campaign headquarters is on high alert regarding follow-up reports related to Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol. While concerned about the impact additional reports may have on public opinion, they are also continuing to deliberate on the timing of her official activities.
Lee Yang-su, chief spokesperson for the People Power Party's campaign headquarters, said on the 24th in response to questions about Kim's volunteer activity plans, "There are no plans for official activities at all." This is due to ongoing reports related to the '7-hour recording' of Kim's phone conversations with Lee from Seoul Voice, raising concerns that it would be premature for Kim to engage in public activities at this time. On the 22nd, MBC's News Desk revealed additional parts of the recorded phone conversations.
Kim's intention to apologize for the contents of the calls was clear. Lee, the chief spokesperson, stated, "The broadcasts related to the recordings are still ongoing, but once they settle to some extent, we will issue a final statement including all broadcast content." Previously, Kim issued a public apology for allegations of exaggerating her resume and career.
The campaign headquarters reportedly has no official plans for Kim's activities. Although there were reports that Kim would begin public activities such as volunteer work after the Lunar New Year holiday, it is currently considered too soon. However, with only 44 days left until the election, delaying Kim's official activities any further is not an option. On the same day, Kim Eun-hye, the campaign headquarters' public relations director, said on the radio, "We have not officially brought this matter to the table for discussion," but added, "There will be an opportunity to greet the public before the March 9 election."
