[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Chairman An Yusu of the Ace Kyungam Foundation has been continuously carrying out warm donation activities for underprivileged neighbors by donating rice worth 150 million KRW ahead of the Korean traditional holiday, Seollal.
The Ace Kyungam Foundation announced that Chairman An Yusu donated 5,860 bags of 10kg white rice to Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, so that elderly living alone and child-headed households could have a warm holiday during Seollal. The donated white rice will be distributed to 5,538 vulnerable households, including elderly living alone, and 322 child-headed households within Seongnam City.
Since 1999, Chairman An has donated white rice every year during the Seollal and Chuseok holidays for 24 years to help underprivileged neighbors. Based on the management philosophy of "returning corporate profits to society," the purpose is to provide practical benefits to those in need through steady donations rather than temporary support.
With the belief that society must come together especially in difficult times, the total amount of white rice (10kg bags) donated by Chairman An to the local community over 24 years has reached 124,760 bags (1,247 tons). This amount is enough to feed 7.8 million people for one day and is valued at approximately 2.9 billion KRW.
Chairman An said, "Seollal, the great national holiday, is a time to spend warmly with family, but due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and cold weather, vulnerable groups are going through difficult times. I hope that through this rice donation, underprivileged neighbors facing hardships can have a warmer and more joyful Seollal holiday."
In addition to donating rice during holidays, Chairman An has donated 1.5 billion KRW over five times to improve the treatment of firefighters and also contributed 300 million KRW to support recovery efforts for the wildfire damage in the Goseong area of Gangwon Province.
