[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] GS25 announced on the 24th that it held a launch ceremony for the ‘MD Supporters’ to foster product planners (MDs) who lead distribution trends and develop hit products.
Heo Yeon-su, Vice Chairman of GS Retail, stated in this month’s New Year’s address and New Vision declaration ceremony that developing hit products based on new customer trends and strengthening product competitiveness to maximize profits is one of the key strategic goals for 2022. To this end, GS25 selected MD Supporters from among in-house sales managers (OFC) born in the 1990s to actively reflect the opinions of Generation Z, who are leading recent trends.
The selection criteria for MD Supporters focused on ▲trend leadership ▲idea bank ▲distinctive conviction ▲passion for product development. Fifteen individuals born in the 1990s with special experiences and drive, such as operating a food truck in the US and founding an online market, were chosen as the final members. The MD Supporters will carry out activities such as monthly new product tasting sessions, sharing MZ trends, performing team joint missions, and individual missions over the next six months.
Through the activities of the MD Supporters, GS25 aims to listen to field opinions on previously launched products, review directions for new product development, and focus on releasing hit products and strengthening product competitiveness by actively reflecting field trends and Generation Z’s opinions.
Im Seon-hwa, a manager selected as part of the first MD Supporters group, said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to apply various ideas I had in the sales field to actual product development,” adding, “With the youthful spirit and sensibility of those born in the 1990s, I will take the lead in presenting hit products that satisfy customers.”
A GS25 official said, “To strengthen product competitiveness, we want to discover exciting hit products together with in-house Generation Z sales managers who communicate directly with customers,” and added, “This Supporters activity will be a gateway to the birth of MD experts who will lead future trends.”
