[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, targeted Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, on the 23rd, saying, "Politicians who seek votes by causing suffering to the people must be ousted."

After his speech at Pyeongtaek Station Plaza in Gyeonggi Province on the same day, Lee met with reporters and criticized Yoon for refusing an emergency meeting of presidential candidates to discuss an increase in the supplementary budget (추경).

He said, "Politics must never be a way to exploit the suffering of the people for one's own benefit." He added, "I am really disappointed and have nothing more to say to (Yoon). Asking to create a budget by adjusting expenditure after saying to make 35 trillion won is like a guest coming to the house but being pushed outside while saying 'Welcome' when trying to enter," pointing out, "Isn't there a difference between the expression and the true intention?"

He continued, "Using the people's suffering for politics is really an old-fashioned practice. I hope it won't happen."

Regarding the '86 retirement theory' emerging from some within the party that day, he responded, "I will check the situation and get back to you."
