[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] On the 23rd, Gyeonggi Pocheon City announced that the cause of the lift reverse operation accident that occurred the day before at the ski resort 'Bearstown' in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, is presumed to be a 'gear reducer mechanical failure.'
Gyeonggi Pocheon City ordered the suspension of all ski resort lift operations, including the lift involved in the accident. The police, who conducted the first on-site investigation on the 22nd, are currently coordinating a detailed inspection schedule with the National Forensic Service.
The 'Bearstown' side posted a notice on their website stating, "After the accident, we have suspended all lift operations and ski resort business and have begun an emergency safety inspection," and "We sincerely apologize to the victims and their families."
Earlier, around 3 p.m. yesterday, at the 'Bearstown' ski resort in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province, a lift reversed direction, causing some passengers on the lift to jump near the boarding area. As a result of this accident, about 40 users, including a 7-year-old child, sustained minor injuries.
