[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Yoon Hong-geun, Chairman of Genesis BBQ, has been inaugurated as the 12th Chairman of the Kim Sang-ok Memorial Association.
On the 23rd, BBQ announced that Chairman Yoon attended the ‘11th and 12th Chairman Inauguration Ceremony and the 99th Anniversary Commemoration of Kim Sang-ok’s Anti-Japanese Independence Movement’ held on the 21st at the Baekbeom Kim Koo Memorial Hall located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
The Kim Sang-ok Memorial Association was established in 1948 as the first independence activist memorial association in the Republic of Korea by 54 independence activists led by Kim Koo, Lee Si-young, and Cho So-ang of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, with the purpose of honoring the independence spirit and national spirit of Kim Sang-ok. Kim Sang-ok was a member of the Korean Patriotic Organization who carried out acts of resistance such as throwing a bomb at the Jongno Police Station in 1923 during the Japanese colonial period, continuing the major armed anti-Japanese struggles alongside the Battles of Bongodong and Cheongsanri.
Chairman Yoon said, “It is a great honor and a heavy responsibility to be appointed as the chairman of the memorial association honoring independence activist Kim Sang-ok, the main figure in the bombing of the Jongno Police Station, which marked the beginning of full-scale armed anti-Japanese resistance.” He added, “As a central independence movement memorial association fostering the patriotism of the people, we will make every effort to ensure that the noble patriotism of the patriotic martyrs is passed down to future generations.”
The Kim Sang-ok Memorial Association plans to promote the restoration project of Kim Sang-ok’s birthplace located in Jongno, Seoul, and in 2023, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of ‘Kim Sang-ok’s One-Man Anti-Japanese Victory in Seoul,’ it will create a special event to honor the spirit of the patriots who devoted themselves to Korean independence against Japanese oppression, providing an opportunity for all citizens to unite.
