Daegu Metro Line 1 Sangin Station LG CLOi Guidebot Pilot Operation

LG Electronics Guide Robot Commutes to Daegu Unmanned Subway Station

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Electronics announced on the 23rd that it will pilot operate one LG CLOi GuideBot at Sangin Station on Daegu Metro Line 1 from the 27th of this month to the 6th of next month in cooperation with Daegu Metropolitan Transit Corporation.

Sangin Station is a subway station operated by Daegu City as an untact pilot station, where contactless gates with automatic payment like Hi-Pass and untact restrooms will be established. This is the first time LG Electronics operates a guide robot in a subway station.

The LG CLOi GuideBot provides subway-related information such as fares and route maps, as well as guidance on major facilities within the station to customers in the subway station, amid the normalization of non-face-to-face services due to COVID-19.

For example, when customers search for subway route information, timetables, fare systems, or cultural events on the robot's touchscreen, it guides the necessary information on the screen. When looking for convenience facilities within the station, customers can also receive a destination accompaniment service where the robot directly guides the way. It also sends facility-related information to customers via text messages.

LG Electronics unveiled the LG CLOi GuideBot in September last year, featuring multifunctional capabilities including visitor guidance, advertising, security, and docent services. It performs security tasks such as detecting late-night entrants through cameras and is equipped with 27-inch displays on both the front and rear, allowing it to act as a customized advertising board that approaches customers.

LG Electronics provides an integrated control system and continuous maintenance services along with the LG CLOi GuideBot. The robot integrated control system offers comprehensive solutions necessary for system operation, including real-time robot monitoring, remote control, management of various information, content, schedules, and statistics.

Since starting pilot operation of guide robots at Incheon Airport in 2017, LG Electronics has been operating LG CLOi GuideBots in department stores, universities, Seoul Race Park, model houses, and more. LG Electronics’ Robot Business Manager, Executive Director Noh Kyuchan, emphasized, "We will continuously provide differentiated value to customers with LG’s advanced robot solutions that can respond to customer needs in various spaces."
