Resolve Traffic Inconvenience by Constructing Chungcheong Region Metropolitan Railroad
Designation of Daejeon and Sejong as Economic Free Zones
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced on the 22nd his pledges for Sejong City, including the establishment of the Blue House Sejong 2nd Office and the opening of the National Assembly Sejong Chamber.
Visiting Sejong Special Self-Governing City that day, Candidate Yoon stated, "We will complete Sejong as the de facto administrative capital and develop it into South Korea's future strategic special city."
Candidate Yoon said, "We plan to establish the Blue House Sejong 2nd Office and enhance its functions to solidify Sejong City's practical capital functions," adding, "Along with the smooth construction of the National Assembly Sejong Chamber, we plan to complete Sejong as the de facto national administrative capital."
He also said, "We will promptly build the Chungcheong region metropolitan railway connecting Sejong, Daejeon, and Chungbuk to resolve transportation inconveniences for Sejong citizens and quickly connect major urban centers to complete the metropolitan living economic zone of the Chungcheong mega city."
For the economic development of the Sejong area, Candidate Yoon promised, "Through the Daejeon-Sejong Free Economic Zone, we will combine Sejong's demonstration capabilities and Daejeon's accumulated research and development capacity to leap forward as a global economic city," and "We will focus on fostering regional core industries such as future vehicles, smart healthcare, optical-electronics and immersive content industries, and materials and components industries as specialized industries."
In addition, pledges include the establishment of a heavy ion accelerator cancer treatment center, the construction of a radiation medical science convergence industry cluster, the creation of a global youth startup village, and the early opening of the university Sejong joint campus.
Candidate Yoon introduced, "We plan to promote the establishment of the Sejong Digital Media Center (DMC) so that prompt and accurate news coverage can be conducted in the administrative capital Sejong," adding, "We aim to resolve the imbalance of having an administrative capital but lacking media functions, and support a digital media and convention center equipped with all necessary facilities so that Sejong and the Chungcheong region can independently handle news production and cultural content planning, production, and distribution functions."
