Sentenced to 2 Years Imprisonment
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A public official in his 50s who attempted to sexually assault a female employee about 30 years his junior by inviting her to dinner was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 21st, the 11th Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Court (Presiding Judge Jeong Ji-seon) sentenced A (58), who was charged with attempted rape, to two years in prison in the first trial.
He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program and was banned from employment at institutions related to children, adolescents, and welfare for three years.
Earlier, A, a public official working for a local government in Jeonnam, was brought to trial on charges of attempted rape after trying to assault B (female, in her 20s), a newly hired public official, around 8:30 p.m. on February 6 last year.
At the time, A invited B to his home, saying he would make spaghetti, and while watching a TV drama together, he suddenly tried to kiss B when a kissing scene appeared.
A forcibly pushed B, who strongly resisted, onto the bed and committed acts of sexual assault such as biting specific body parts.
B hesitated to report the crime but eventually filed a complaint against A several months after the incident, and A resigned after the crime became known.
Meanwhile, during the trial, A claimed there was no coercion, but the court stated, "The victim, who is about 30 years younger, has suffered significant mental distress from this crime, has taken a leave of absence, and is receiving psychiatric treatment," adding, "Considering these various sentencing factors comprehensively, the sentence was determined."
