[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] On the 21st (local time), the meeting between the US and Russian foreign ministers regarding the military crisis surrounding Ukraine concluded.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov ended their talks around 12:30 PM in Geneva, Switzerland, according to Sputnik News. The meeting, which began around 11 AM, lasted about an hour and a half. Both ministers plan to hold briefings on the content of the talks.
This meeting took place amid rising tensions among the involved countries after claims from the US and Ukraine that Russia had deployed approximately 100,000 troops near the Ukrainian border and was preparing to invade Ukraine earlier this year.
Russia denies the invasion preparations and instead claims that the US and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are militarily supporting Ukraine, which borders Russia, thereby threatening its national security. The West, led by the US, and Russia held a series of meetings last week but only confirmed their sharp differences in positions.
