Emart models are introducing Peacock ancestral ritual foods.

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Emart and SSG.com are increasing the quantity of Peacock Jesu (ancestral ritual) food by 10% and launching discount events. This is due to a significant increase in demand for convenient Jesu food influenced by the 'contactless holiday'.

Emart announced on the 23rd that sales of Peacock Jesu food in the 15 days before the holiday increased by 34.1% and 11.1% during last year's Lunar New Year and Chuseok respectively, compared to 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. During the same period, SSG.com's Peacock Jesu food sales increased by 106% and 86% respectively.

Emart analyzed that this sales growth was achieved because many families could not gather during the holidays, making convenient holiday table settings the trend. The demand for convenient Jesu food, which was originally centered on 1-2 person households, expanded to 3-4 person households, and with the contactless holiday as an opportunity, consumers experienced the ease of cooking and high product quality, leading to repeat purchases.

Emart and SSG.com expect this trend to continue for this year's Lunar New Year as well, so they are increasing the quantity of Peacock Jesu food by about 10% and holding events. Emart will give a Shinsegae gift certificate worth 5,000 won to customers who purchase more than 25,000 won of Peacock Jesu food until February 2nd, while SSG.com will offer an immediate 5,000 won discount instead of a gift certificate.

The event products include about 40 items such as Peacock Rice Cake Soup Rice Cake 900g, Peacock Rich Brisket Broth 1kg, Peacock Five-color Banquet Japchae 610g, Peacock Five-color Skewered Jeon 380g, and Peacock Large Pack Tteokgalbi 900g. This year, Peacock Eorang Son Mandu Eorang Mandu 700g and Peacock Korean Beef Bone Mandu Soup 600g were newly introduced to expand consumer choices.

Along with this, Emart is also conducting an event to show off your family's holiday food through SNS. Participants can upload photos of their family's unique holiday dishes on their Instagram with the required hashtags. The event period is from January 28 to February 4. A total of 20 people will be selected to receive a 10,000 won Emart gift certificate.
