Jinju City and National Jinju Museum Actively Collaborate for the March Exhibition "The Flow of Korean Color Painting" Signing of Business Agreement for Korean Color Painting Exhibition Planning

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 21st, Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il signed a business agreement for the hosting of ‘The Flow of Korean Color Painting’ at the city hall’s entrepreneurs’ room, attended by seven officials including Jang Sang-hoon, Director of the National Jinju Museum.

The planned exhibition ‘The Flow of Korean Color Painting,’ scheduled for March, will showcase works ranging from Goguryeo tomb mural replicas to Joseon and modern and contemporary color paintings. The main contents of this agreement include joint planning for the exhibition, artwork loans, and consulting related to the exhibition.

On this day, Mayor Cho Gyu-il stated, “Since the exhibition will be held through a joint agreement between our city and the National Jinju Museum, I hope this will serve as a stepping stone to resolve the imbalance in regional culture and arts.” He added, “As a planned exhibition reflecting regional characteristics will be held through joint planning and loans of collections from national institutions, we will actively strive to attract national cultural facilities to the site where the National Jinju Museum relocated.”

Director Jang Sang-hoon said, “The exhibition showing the overall flow of Korean color painting is very meaningful. It will be a good opportunity to gauge how traditional Korean art has evolved to the present day and how it will be realized and manifested in today’s culture and arts.” He added, “I hope the hosting of the planned exhibition by the National Jinju Museum will greatly help in attracting cultural facilities planned in the creative city of Jinju.”

At a meeting on the 14th between Mayor Cho Gyu-il and Director Yoon Bum-mo of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Director Yoon said, “It is the first time nationwide that a local government is planning a comprehensive exhibition covering domestic color paintings from ancient to modern times.” He also stated, “We will actively consider cooperation and support for joint hosting of the exhibition and artwork loans.”

The Flow of Korean Color Painting exhibition is scheduled to be held in March at the National Jinju Museum’s planned exhibition hall and the Jinju Municipal Lee Seong-ja Art Museum exhibition hall, showcasing about 100 pieces from institutions and private collections including the National Museum of Korea, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the Leeum Museum of Art.

Jinju City plans to introduce the flow of Korean color painting while also highlighting the city’s art historical aspects as a historic cultural city playing a role in Korean art history, including hosting the high-quality Gaecheon Arts Festival.
