DL E&C "Wall Cracks and Leaks Are Initial Defects... Unrelated to Previous Day's Vibrations"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] A 119 emergency call was received reporting that a high-rise building in Seongsu-dong, Seoul was shaking, prompting the construction company and authorities to investigate the cause and conduct inspections.
According to DL E&C, the construction company, at around 4:30 PM the previous day, a 119 call was received reporting that the 33-story D-Tower building of Acro Seoul Forest in Seongsu-dong, Seoul was shaking up and down. The Seoul Seongdong Fire Station dispatched personnel and inspected the site using a seismic meter, but no clear vibrations were detected on site, nor was any earthquake detected by the sensing equipment.
DL E&C dispatched a technical team around 8 AM that day to conduct a preliminary inspection and is analyzing the cause of the vibrations together with an invited external professor. A DL E&C official stated, "Vibrations occurred on some floors," adding, "The apartment wall cracks and leaks detected in some areas are defects that occurred during the initial move-in period and are unrelated to the vibrations that occurred the previous day."
The government is also inspecting for any safety abnormalities. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport requested its affiliated agency, the Korea Infrastructure Safety & Technology Corporation, to conduct an inspection that morning. Companies occupying the building reportedly instructed their employees to leave work early to facilitate smooth on-site investigations.
Completed at the end of the year before last, D-Tower is part of Acro Seoul Forest, a representative luxury residential-commercial complex in Seoul, housing companies such as Hyundai Glovis and SM Entertainment.
