Muju-gun Accelerates Aging Sewer Pipeline Improvement Project

[Muju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Muju County announced on the 21st that it is promoting the first and second phases of the aged sewage pipeline improvement project to prevent river pollution and operate sewage treatment efficiently.

Muju County secured a total project cost of 1 billion KRW, including 500 million KRW in national funds this year, and decided to intensify the second phase of the aged sewage pipeline improvement project in the Gucheon-dong and Seolcheon-myeon areas of Muju County.

To this end, the county plans to issue the basic and detailed design service next month and start construction bidding in March next year, aiming to complete the construction by October 2024.

The second phase project involves a total investment of 9.2 billion KRW to replace 7.9 km of sewage pipelines and repair 0.2 km of pipelines, thereby improving the quality of life for residents in Gucheon-dong and Seolcheon-myeon and ensuring stable sewage treatment.

Prior to this, Muju County has been conducting the first phase of the aged sewage pipeline improvement project with a budget of 15.337 billion KRW to prevent ground subsidence caused by aged sewage pipelines in the sewage treatment areas of Muju-eup and Anseong-myeon and to enhance sewage treatment operation efficiency.

This section covers 8.8 km from Eumnae-ri in Muju-eup to Dangsan-ri and the Anseong-myeon area, where unidentified water is currently infiltrating the pipelines.

Accordingly, the county plans to repair 1.59 km of pipelines to provide residents with a pleasant and safe environment.

Unidentified water refers to rainwater and groundwater entering through damaged aged sewage pipelines, and along with the inflow of soil and other materials, there is concern about ground subsidence caused by this.

Muju County expects to complete the basic and detailed design for the first phase project soon and plans to issue construction bids in May, aiming to complete the project within 2024.
