MZ Generation Targeted 'Webtoon Escape Room Theme Park' Opens
Four Popular Webtoons Including 'Yumi's Cells' Turned into Games
'Cheonjisin Philosophy' Exhibition Hall Remodeled, Linked with Museom Village
Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk, has opened the 'Webtoon Escape Room Theme Park' targeting the MZ generation.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] An indoor activity game facility targeting the MZ generation, ‘Webtoon Escape Room Theme Park,’ has appeared in Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk.
This theme park opened with popular Naver webtoons as its theme.
Escape rooms are indoor activity games where participants enter a confined space and solve quizzes hidden throughout the room within a limited time to find a way to escape. They are very popular among the MZ generation.
Yeongju City remodeled the Cheonjihin Traditional Thought Experience Center exhibition hall, which opened in 2020 in Gwonsun-ri, Munsu-myeon, and promoted a ‘killer content.’ It was developed into a webtoon escape room theme park that combines various IoT technology-based mystery games with local attractions and tourism content.
With a total project cost of 1 billion KRW invested through the tourism content convergence experience center project, the city implemented four popular webtoons offline for the first time in Gyeongbuk Province by combining webtoons and escape room games.
The original webtoons used as material are △Yumi’s Cells △Tiger Brother △True Beauty △Tower of God.
The escape rooms reflect the original webtoon stories. ‘Yumi’s Cells’ is about the cells inside the female protagonist Yumi’s head helping her create a successful date.
‘Tiger Brother’ tells the story of the tiger king, Sanggun, protecting the mountain spirit’s children from enemies, and ‘True Beauty’ is about a female protagonist in her twenties upgrading herself through makeup.
Also, ‘Tower of God’ is set against the background of the protagonist defeating enemies and climbing the tower to grow.
To apply for the escape room experience, search for ‘Webtoon Escape Room Park’ on internet portals like Naver, select one of the four themes, and choose a participation session.
The experience fee is 15,000 KRW per person per theme. A 10% discount is applied for online reservations, and a 20% discount is offered to local residents.
Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with 11 sessions per theme. Participants who do not complete the mission after the experience receive a revisit discount coupon, and those who complete it receive a webtoon goods discount coupon.
The city expects the escape room game to create a sensation in Yeongju tourism. It is seen as a new tourism content targeting young people, alongside Museom Village, which is widely known as a domestic Instagram hotspot and is bustling with couples and family tourists every weekend.
Mayor Jang Wook-hyun said, “We developed killer content like the Webtoon Escape Room Theme Park in a place loved as a healing travel destination by many tourists for its natural beauty and cultural heritage.”
