The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that a total of 29,092 vehicles across 26 models manufactured or imported and sold by Stellantis Korea, BMW Korea, Honda Korea, Audi Volkswagen Korea, Hyundai Motor Company, Tesla Korea, and MAN Truck & Bus Korea have been found to have manufacturing defects and will be voluntarily recalled.
Among them, 9,052 vehicles of 5 models including the Jeep Cherokee from Stellantis Korea were found to have a software error in the engine control unit, which causes the warning light not to illuminate when engine oil is low, potentially leading to engine shutdown during continuous driving. These vehicles can be repaired free of charge at official service centers starting from the 3rd of next month.
A total of 7,547 vehicles of 8 models including the BMW X6 xDrive40i imported and sold by BMW Korea were found to have safety standard non-compliance due to the lighting installed on the front grille of the vehicle not meeting luminance standards. The importer will first conduct a voluntary recall. The Ministry plans to impose fines later considering the correction rate. These vehicles can receive free parts repairs at official service centers starting from the 25th.
For 4,532 units of the Pilot model from Honda Korea, it was confirmed that due to insufficient rigidity of the hood latch device, the hood may open while driving, potentially causing accidents. Free repairs will be available at official service centers starting from the 7th of next month.
In the case of 4,301 vehicles of 8 models including the Q5 45 TFSI qu. from Audi Volkswagen Korea, a short circuit caused by moisture ingress into the communication relay control device was found, which may reduce engine output during driving and thus pose a safety risk. Free parts repairs will be available at official service centers starting from the 7th of next month.
A total of 1,925 vehicles of 2 models including the Santa Fe from Hyundai Motor Company were found to have a manufacturing defect in the instrument panel, which may cause the display to invert vertically in temperatures below minus 20 degrees Celsius. These vehicles have been undergoing free repairs at direct service centers and Blue Hands since the day before yesterday.
For 1,541 units of the Model S from Tesla Korea, a safety standard non-compliance was confirmed due to improper installation of the hood latch device, causing the latch not to lock properly. A recall will be conducted first, and fines will be imposed later considering the correction rate. These vehicles can be repaired free of charge at official service centers starting from the 24th.
A total of 194 TGX tractor units imported and sold by MAN Truck & Bus Korea were found to have a safety standard non-compliance due to a software error in the electric control device, causing the work lights not to turn off even when the vehicle speed exceeds 20 km/h. The importer will conduct a voluntary recall and plans to impose fines later. Software updates are being provided free of charge at official service centers starting from today.
