[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A mother who left her elementary school-aged sons in a house full of garbage was arrested by the police.
According to the police on the 20th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul booked a woman in her 40s, identified as A, on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.
A is accused of leaving her two elementary school-aged sons unattended for an extended period in a garbage-filled house in Yongsan-gu.
On the 18th, after a child abuse-dedicated public official from the district office discovered the brothers and reported it, the police arrested A on the spot. The two sons were moved to a child protection center, but during this process, A's older son was reported to have tested positive for COVID-19. A was classified as a close contact and quarantined at home after being released.
The police plan to transfer the case to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in accordance with the guidelines for handling child abuse cases involving children under the age of 10.
