According to health authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, a total of 4,499 people nationwide tested positive for COVID-19. This number is the same as the 4,499 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
Although the number of confirmed cases had been decreasing due to social distancing measures, the spread of the Omicron variant has recently caused the scale of the outbreak to increase again.
As of 6 p.m. that day, the number of confirmed cases was 1,484 more than the 315 cases recorded at the same time one week earlier on the 13th.
New confirmed cases that day were 2,624 (58.3%) in the metropolitan area and 1,875 (41.7%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers were: Gyeonggi 1,302, Seoul 971, Daegu 369, Incheon 351, Gyeongbuk 227, Busan 208, Gwangju 187, Gangwon 145, Chungnam and Jeonnam 139 each, Gyeongnam 135, Jeonbuk 129, Chungbuk 71, Daejeon 63, Ulsan 44, Jeju 12, and Sejong 7.
