Selected as the Nation's Best Cultural City Last Year, Additional 200 Million KRW Funding Provided
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Pohang City in Gyeongbuk is promoting the ‘Pohang Cultural Vision’ to create a happy life for citizens through cultural projects and to forge a new future for the city.
On the 20th, Pohang City announced plans to continuously pursue the statutory cultural city designation and to create a new future for the city through cultural projects that inherit and develop the region’s unique cultural assets.
Last year, it was selected as the best cultural city among seven cultural cities nationwide in the first statutory cultural city development project performance evaluation, receiving an additional 200 million KRW in project funding.
Furthermore, as a ‘citizen-led cultural growth project,’ citizen participation programs such as regional citizen-led projects, the Citizen Cultural Policy Group, and the Cultural City Citizen Forum will be conducted.
Also, as a ‘cultural urban regeneration project’ supporting citizens’ daily lives, the city will promote the creation and activation of cultural hubs, training of cultural heritage activity leaders, and establishment of a cultural safety net.
Through culture, as a ‘sustainable cultural growth engine project,’ the city will respectively promote ‘humanities-steel-marine content future asset development,’ the establishment of a Pohang-style art support system, and the creation of a circular cultural public development youth cultural startup special zone.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang said, “As culture has the great power to embrace citizens’ lives, heal daily life, and improve quality of life, we will strive even harder to build a ‘sustainable cultural city Pohang.’”
