[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo, who was summarily indicted on charges of so-called 'split donations' to members of the National Assembly, has been fined 10 million won.

Judge Shin Se-a of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 27 handed down a fine of 1,000 won to CEO Koo, who was summarily indicted on charges of violating the Political Funds Act on the 20th. This amount is the same as the requested summary order amount. Nine KT executives and employees who were also summarily indicted on the same charges were each fined between 4 million and 5 million won.

CEO Koo is accused of illegally donating 14 million won in political funds to the support committees of 13 members of the National Assembly in September 2016. Previously, KT purchased gift certificates and resold them to create slush funds, which were then divided into amounts ranging from 1 million to 3 million won under the names of executives, employees, and acquaintances, and transferred to the support committee accounts. Investigations revealed that Chairman Koo and others participated in the crime by lending their names.
