[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jeonnam Province and Jindo County signed an investment agreement on the 19th at the Jindo Tower Observatory with Dohwi Co., Ltd. and Edga Jindo Co., Ltd. for the ‘Nokjin Tourist Site Hotel & Resort Development Project.’
According to the agreement, Edga Jindo Co., Ltd. will build a large-scale hotel with 388 rooms and 40 luxury resort pool villas at the Jindo Nokjin Tourist Site by 2024. Upon completion, the project is expected to create about 300 jobs in the region.
Especially as small-scale and family tourism has gained attention due to COVID-19, the lodging and recreational facilities within the complex are expected to play a significant role as a stay-type tourism hub in the southwestern coast in the future.
The complex will feature spacious rooms and various convenience facilities where family visitors can enjoy a comfortable stay with sea views. In addition to hotel guests, specialized ancillary facilities will be provided for tourists visiting Jindo County to enjoy during their stay.
Plans include installing a mixed reality digital garden, a nighttime digital theme park utilizing holograms, and gateway holograms and digital mapping landmark sculptures expressing various stories of Jindo County such as the Jindo dog and Geobukseon (turtle ship).
Moreover, the complex will include various water play facilities, gardens, fitness centers, a restaurant area making use of the beautiful natural scenery around the resort, an observatory on the top floor, and about 30 commercial establishments, making it a representative stay-type tourism facility enjoyable for all ages.
The Nokjin Tourist Site area, where the resort will be built, serves as the gateway to Jindo. The Jindo Bridge and the marine cable car are already operational, and a monorail is scheduled to be completed in the first half of next year.
This agreement is the first tourism business investment agreement signed as Jeonnam Province ambitiously launched the ‘2022-2023 Jeollanam-do Year of Visit’ aiming to become a stay-type tourism hub.
Seong Myeong-jun, CEO of Edga Jindo, said, “Nokjin Tourist Site is a place imbued with the spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin,” adding, “We will do our best to infuse historical significance and stories into the architecture so that the facilities themselves become tourism products.”
A Jeonnam Province official stated, “Banwol and Bakji Islands in Sinan, known as the ‘Purple Islands,’ were selected as the first UN World’s Best Tourism Village last year,” and added, “Including Uldolmok here, we will apply imagination to the province’s comparative advantage resources such as seas, islands, and mudflats to make Jeonnam a tourism center attracting people worldwide.”
A Jindo County official said, “Once the resort is completed, it is expected to enhance the brand of Jindo County, known as the Treasure Island, by providing a pleasant and comfortable resting space for tourists visiting Treasure Island Jindo, which is rapidly emerging as a tourism city.”
Meanwhile, Edga Jindo Co., Ltd., based in Mokpo City, is a subsidiary of Dohwi Co., Ltd., which has actively carried out apartment and officetel construction since the early days of the Namak New Town development and is currently engaged in the 2030 Seoul Metropolitan Area Station Youth Housing Construction Project.
