Selling Abortion Pills and Assisting Infant Murder... Each Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Two men who sold abortion pills and assisted buyers in committing infanticide were sentenced to prison.
The Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 4 (Presiding Judge Kim Seongjun) sentenced A (36) and B (35), who were tried for aiding infanticide and aiding corpse disposal, to three years in prison each. They were also ordered to be banned from employment in child-related institutions for three years.
The court stated, "Human life cannot be abandoned under any circumstances and is an absolutely protected value. The life of a newborn baby is no exception. However, for their own economic benefit, they aided infanticide and corpse disposal twice, which is highly condemnable," explaining the sentencing rationale.
A and B, who operated illegal sales sites selling or consulting on abortion pills, sold abortion pills to a woman C on January 20, 2020.
Later, on January 29, they received a text message from C stating, "I gave birth in the bathroom toilet, but the baby is alive," to which they replied, "You need to put it back in the toilet; if the baby lives as is, there is no way." Following their words, C killed and abandoned the baby and was sentenced to one year and six months in prison with a three-year probation confirmed.
In May 2019, A and others also aided infanticide by telling a woman who gave birth in a bathroom toilet to "go to the mountain and bury (the baby)." This woman, along with the baby's father, killed the baby, and they attempted to burn the baby's corpse directly during this process.
They were sentenced to two years in prison with three years probation and one year in prison with two years probation, respectively.
