[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Joo-hee] The identity of a man accused of murdering his girlfriend who had broken up with him has been disclosed.
The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency held a personal information disclosure review committee on the 19th, consisting of seven members including external experts, and decided to disclose the personal information of Cho Hyun-jin (27), who was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Cho is accused of stabbing the victim, A, with a weapon in the bathroom of A's one-room apartment in Seongjeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan City, at around 9:40 p.m. on the 12th, causing A's death. At the time, A's mother, who had come up from her hometown the day before to see her daughter, was also present in the one-room apartment.
Cho reportedly said, "Since your mother is here, let's talk in the bathroom," led A to the bathroom, locked the door, and then stabbed A's abdomen and other areas with a prepared weapon.
When A's mother, who heard her daughter's screams, urgently knocked on the bathroom door, Cho pushed the mother away and fled. A was taken to the hospital for treatment but eventually died.
The police arrested Cho at a one-room apartment about 1 km away from A's house by analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed around the crime scene.
During the police investigation, Cho reportedly stated that "I went to A's house to change her mind after she told me she wanted to break up, but she said to break up again, so I committed the crime." It is reported that Cho and A met in October last year and dated for three months.
The police stated that they decided to disclose Cho's personal information considering that there is sufficient evidence for the murder charge and the brutality of the crime.
The police plan to operate a secondary damage prevention team to prevent secondary harm to Cho's family or acquaintances due to the disclosure of Cho's personal information.
