[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, addressed the controversy over the 'secondary harm' caused by the report on the recorded conversation of his spouse Kim Geon-hee, stating, "Regardless of the circumstances, I apologize and express my regret to those who were hurt during the reporting process."
On the 19th, after visiting a guide dog school for the visually impaired in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, Yoon told reporters, "I have already addressed this in writing, and both my wife and I share the same view regarding the (secondary harm remarks)," expressing his stance.
This is the first time Yoon has publicly apologized regarding the secondary harm issue. Kim had previously sparked controversy over secondary harm by mentioning 'Me too' and former Chungnam Governor Ahn Hee-jung in the released recording.
Earlier, the People Power Party's election campaign headquarters requested a written rebuttal from the media outlet that published the report, stating that "It is believed that Mr. Lee Myung-soo first brought up the topic and criticized power-related sexual crimes by ruling party figures," and added, "In criticizing some ruling party and progressive figures who exploited their power or status for sexual exploitation, and in responding to Mr. Lee's remarks, very inappropriate comments were made. We sincerely apologize to the public."
