[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] The Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) Project Group at Pukyong National University will hold the "4th Northeast Asian Maritime Area and Humanities Network International Conference" online over two days on the 20th and 21st.
The conference, themed "Segmentation and Conflict in the Humanities Network of the Northeast Asian Maritime Area," will feature scholars from five countries?Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan, and Finland?who will present and engage in discussions.
On the first day, starting with a keynote lecture by Professor Ota Izuru of Kyoto University titled "Reception and Transformation of the Modern Chinese Mahan 'Maritime Power' Theory," there will be 10 presentations and discussions across three sessions: △ Wars in Modern East Asia △ Northeast Asian Maritime Area in War △ Northeast Asian Maritime Area and the Cold War.
On the second day, the HK+ Project Group will utilize its unique location in Busan to hold a special session titled "The Korean War and Busan," featuring four presentations and discussions.
Son Dongju, head of the Pukyong National University HK+ Project Group, said, "We hope this international conference will serve as an opportunity to critically organize existing research related to the humanities of the Northeast Asian maritime area and to discover new challenges."
The project group holds an international conference annually to view the Northeast Asian maritime area from a humanities perspective with scholars from the East Asian region, focusing on the importance and role of the Northeast Asian maritime area to foster healthy development of relationships in the Northeast Asian region.
