[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The People’s Party’s hearing for the injunction request to ban the TV debate between Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, and Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party presidential candidate, will be held on the 24th.
According to the legal community on the 19th, the Seoul Western District Court Civil Division 21 (Chief Presiding Judge Park Byung-tae) will conduct a hearing at 3 p.m. on the 24th regarding the People’s Party’s injunction request to ban the broadcast of the presidential candidate invitation debate filed against the three terrestrial broadcasters.
Earlier that day, the Democratic Party and the People Power Party agreed to request the three broadcasters to hold a debate between the two candidates on either the 30th or 31st. The People’s Party is strongly opposing the exclusion of Ahn Cheol-soo, who is polling in the 10% range, from the debate.
Current law stipulates that at least three official presidential debates must be held. However, there are no specific regulations regarding additional debates organized by media outlets outside of the official debates.
