Suncheon-si Promotes Customized HACCP Certification Support Project for Agro-Food Processing Companies

Up to 4 Million KRW Support Per Company, Applications Accepted Until the 28th

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 19th that it will promote various customized HACCP certification support projects to help local agricultural food processing companies facing difficulties due to COVID-19 and the expansion of mandatory HACCP certification items.

HACCP is a food safety management system that manages all processes from food production to distribution and consumption to ensure and guarantee food safety. Since December last year, processing companies producing related items are required to obtain HACCP certification.

As HACCP guarantees food safety, the certification process is complex and requires significant costs for professional consulting, testing, and mandatory education, making it difficult for small-scale processing companies to obtain HACCP certification.

The city has identified and analyzed these conditions and, unlike other local governments that only support consulting costs, plans to provide customized support for various expenses incurred during the process, including consulting fees, quality inspection fees, education fees, certification audit fees, and machine calibration fees, to reduce the burden on HACCP-certified farms.

Support of up to 4 million KRW per farm (company) will be provided to agricultural food manufacturing and processing companies that use more than 50% of agricultural products produced in Suncheon City or Jeollanam-do and have an average annual sales of less than 500 million KRW.

Interested farms (companies) can apply by visiting the administrative welfare center of their jurisdictional eup, myeon, or dong with the required documents such as the application form and business plan by the 28th.

A representative from the Suncheon Agricultural Technology Center said, “This will help farmers who were at a loss as the mandatory HACCP application period expired,” and added, “We will continue to listen to difficulties in the certification process and work together to find solutions.”
